3 people arrested and charged after drug raid in North Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tennessee – Three people face multiple felony charges after a raid on a North Memphis home turned up a large quantity of guns, ammunition and illegal pills.

According to reports, detectives with the Memphis Police Department executed a drug search warrant at a home in the 1500 block of North Trezevant Street on May 31.


During the search, investigators found four handguns, a rifle, 382.4 grams of promethazine, 94 ecstasy pills, 17 alprazolam pills, a digital scale, 787 rounds of ammunition, as well as a large amount of marijuana and cash.

Deonte Adams, Elton Benson and Jakki Chalmers were arrested in connection with illegal drugs and weapons.

Deonte Adams, 26, was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, tampering with evidence, possession of a controlled substance, namely ecstasy, possession of a controlled substance, namely alprazolam, and possession of a controlled substance, namely marijuana. He is being held on $400,000 bail.

Elton Benson, 35, is charged with five counts of illegal possession of a weapon, possession of a controlled substance (ecstasy), possession of a controlled substance (alprazolam), possession of a controlled substance (marijuana) and possession of a prescription drug (promethazine) without a prescription. His bail is set at $175,000.

Jakki Chalmers, 27, is charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous crime, possession of a controlled substance, namely ecstasy, possession of a controlled substance, namely alprazolam, possession of a controlled substance, namely marijuana, and possession of a prescription drug, namely promethazine, without a prescription. He is being held on $25,000 bail.

Adams and Benson were also arrested earlier this year on several drug charges.
