CLEARFIELD, Utah, June 3, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) – A man in his 60s was shot and killed Monday night following a hit-and-run crash and an incident of driving aggression, according to police.

Emergency dispatch received a 911 call around 6:25 p.m. from a driver involved in a hit-and-run crash near State Route 193 and Industrial Parkway, Clearfield police said in a news release.

The driver, a man in his 30s, continued to talk to emergency dispatchers while pursuing the other driver who tried to get away from them, the release said.

The two vehicles entered a residential area near the corner of 75 North and 1000 West, and the vehicle being pursued by the 911 caller came to a stop in the middle of the street near the corner of 300 North and 1200 West, the news release said.

The driver of the fleeing car then got out of his vehicle and approached the pursuing vehicle, which stopped a short distance behind them.

“This encounter ended in a shootout in which the driver of the fleeing vehicle died,” the press release states.

The driver, who called 911, was taken into custody and is cooperating with police, the press release said.

Police have closed 1200 West from 200 North to 300 North while officers investigate the incident. The closure is expected to last several hours, police said.

Anyone with information about the hit-and-run crash and subsequent shooting is asked to call police at 801-497-8300.

Officials from multiple agencies are assisting with the investigation, including the Syracuse Police Department, North Davis Fire District, Davis County Sheriff’s Office and the Utah Office of the Medical Examiner.
