South Bend Police Warn of Fake Funeral Fundraiser Scam

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – South Bend police are warning the public about a scam that both police and our own newsroom warned about last summer.

We are talking about fake beggars who use posters that say “funeral” when in fact it is just a scam.

Police said they observed signs this weekend in St. Joseph County that had a similar design and format to the signs our WNDU 16 Investigates team filmed last summer. The goal of the scam is to take advantage of the kindness and generosity of our community by faking a heartbreaking situation in order to get your money.
