4 employees suspended after fight breaks out at Spirit counter at BWI Airport

A supplier that works with Spirit Airlines has suspended four employees after a fight broke out at the airline’s ticket counter at BWI Marshall Airport earlier this week, the airline said in a statement.

The dispute involved four Spirit Airlines employees and one other individual.

A video shared by TMZ shows a barefoot man in a gray T-shirt and black shorts getting ready to fight in the ticket line.

“Let’s go,” he says in the video as other men approach him with their fists raised. “You’re going to jail today.”

Next, the video shows a man in a white shirt throwing punches, and three others join in, kicking and punching the man in gray while holding him down. The video lasts about a minute.

Sergeant Brady McCormick, a spokesman for the Maryland Transportation Authority, which handles law enforcement at the airport, said officers learned of the fight at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday. Five people were involved in the fight, and one “suffered minor injuries,” McCormick said.

He said those involved in the brawl were “provided with information about victims’ rights and support, including how to file a criminal complaint with their local police department.”

A Spirit Airlines spokesperson said the ticket counter employees were employed by a third-party vendor at BWI. The vendor has suspended four employees “pending an investigation into the matter.”

“We do not tolerate any form of violence and will take the necessary action once the supplier’s investigation is complete,” the airline said.

Neither the MDTA nor Spirit responded to a request for comment about what sparked the fight. The people involved had not been identified as of Friday evening.
