Man dead after being hit in the head during fight in Malta

According to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office, a man was killed after someone hit him in the head with an object.

The incident occurred Friday evening near the Malta Gardens trailer park and apartments off Knabner Road, just off State Route 9 in the town of Malta.

The man was killed in an argument between several people, according to Saratoga County Sheriff Michael Zurlo. The situation escalated when one of the people hit another on the head with an object strong enough to cause serious damage.

A witness told NewsChannel 13 that the victim’s body was seen lying openly on the ground some time after the fight.

Police have cordoned off the block to keep passersby away and to allow for investigations at the scene. Much of the area is residential and privately owned.

At the time of writing, the deceased person’s name was not yet known. Zurlo said several people were being questioned about their involvement and there was no danger to the public.

Law enforcement authorities have not confirmed whether anyone has been arrested.
