SWAT officers kill man who was armed with his mother in Silver Spring apartment, police say – NBC4 Washington

According to police, Montgomery County police officers shot and killed a man after 911 received a 911 call from his mother.

When officers arrived at the 3300 block of Hampton Point Drive in Silver Spring around 11:40 p.m. Wednesday, they heard gunshots coming from inside an apartment, Montgomery County police said.

The man, who was allegedly carrying a weapon, and his mother were in an apartment and a SWAT team was called to the scene, police said.

After hours of negotiations outside the apartment, the police decided to go into the house, where an officer shot the man, police said.

Rescue workers took the man to a hospital where he died, police said.

Pursuant to Maryland law, the Maryland Attorney General’s Division of Independent Investigations will handle the investigation into the shooting.

The Attorney General’s Office is expected to release the names of the man killed and the police officer who shot him by Monday.
