1 dead and 3 injured after ignoring red light – NBC Chicago

According to police, one adult was killed and three juveniles were injured in a two-vehicle crash after a car ran a red light in Elk Grove Village late Tuesday night.

According to Elk Grove Village Police, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Biesterfield Road and Meacham Road at approximately 11:22 p.m. for a report of an injury crash involving a Lexus occupied by three juveniles and a Honda occupied by an adult.

According to initial reports, the Lexus, which was traveling north, ignored a red light at the intersection, police said.

All three teens in the Lexus were taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. They were treated and later released, police added.

The Honda’s sole occupant was taken to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead, police said.

The crime scene was busy all night and into the early hours of the morning with investigators and yellow crime scene tape. Police cordoned off the intersection of Biesterfield and Meacham Road until 8:30 a.m.

Photos and videos from the scene of the accident early Wednesday showed two heavily damaged vehicles whose airbags had been deployed. Debris from car parts and items from inside the vehicles were scattered across the road.

One of the vehicles appeared to be almost a total write-off; the front section and the driver’s side were destroyed.

NBC 5’s Lisa Chavarria reported early Wednesday that several teenagers came to the scene of the accident and suggested that the people involved in the accident may have been friends of theirs.

“I came to the scene because I saw it on a friend’s Snapchat stories and I think he was involved,” said one. “It’s really horrible to see cars like that, just totaled.”

Later Wednesday morning, a man told NBC Chicago that his wife, a mother of five, was killed in the accident. According to the man, the 45-year-old woman was on her way home from work in Palatine when the accident occurred.

According to the Cook County Coroner, one death has been confirmed.
