Fundraiser launched for family of mother killed in state park

In her final act of life, a 33-year-old mother pushed her toddler out of the path of an out-of-control vehicle in the sand dunes of Silver Lake State Park.

PIERSON, Michigan — Relatives of a West Michigan mother who rescued her toddler from an out-of-control Jeep at a state park over Memorial Day weekend are asking for help.

Kadie Price, 33, of Pierson, was a mother and wife of a Kent County Sheriff’s deputy.

A fundraiser on GiveSendGo aims to help her children cope with life without her.

“As many of you know, the Price family suffered an unimaginable loss with Kadie’s unexpected passing. During this difficult time, we want our community to pull together and show the family unwavering support. Your donation celebrates Kadie’s life and final act of heroism, and supports the children as they navigate life without her. Thank you for honoring Kadie’s memory with your generous donation. Your support means more than words can express,” the donation page states.

The crowdfunding website, which describes itself as a Christian organization, stated that there would be no fees for using the platform.

As of 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, the site had already raised over $32,000.

The Price family was in the vehicle scramble area of ​​the Silver Lake State Park Sand Dunes drag racing track early Sunday afternoon.

Kadie Price and her family sat outside their vehicle and watched as a Jeep raced north on the drag track.

When the 64-year-old driver, whose identity has not yet been established, accelerated sharply, he lost control of his vehicle.

When the Jeep went out of control, it left the track and drove toward the Price family.

The Oceana County Sheriff’s Office said the Jeep struck the Price family’s vehicle, which then struck them.

According to authorities, she pushed her two-year-old daughter out of the danger zone shortly before she was hit.

Kadie succumbed to her injuries.

The investigation into the crash is not yet complete and is ongoing, authorities said at the weekend.
