Party with thugs: DySP MG Sabu suspended | Kerala News

Thiruvananthapuram: Alappuzha Crime Branch MG Sabu, who attended a party thrown by gang leaders at Puliyanam near Angamaly, has been suspended. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had earlier directed the state police chief to suspend Sabu. Three other police officials, including the DySP driver and two Armed Reserve Camp personnel, who attended the party, had already been suspended.

The disciplinary action against Sabu comes as he is due to retire from the force on May 31. The suspension order states that Sabu’s actions were a serious breach of disciplinary rules and had damaged the reputation of the entire police force. It further states that the officer’s actions had undermined the police’s efforts to maintain law and order. His participation in the festival also created the impression that a police officer responsible for protecting the public was instead aiding the thugs, it added.

The DySP along with three other police officials were caught accepting the hospitality of Thammanam Faisal (MJ Faisal, 46) – a notorious thug – at his residence at Kattuchira in Puliyanam, Angamaly, during a raid on Sunday. The police officials had arrived at the thug’s residence in the evening while returning from a drive to Masinagudi organised as part of the DySP’s retirement celebrations.
When the DySP noticed that a police team was coming for a raid, he hid in the washroom. The raid was part of Operation AAG (Action Against Goons), a campaign to curb the rise in racketeering activities in the state.
