A man from Chegutu has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for raping a 12-year-old girl.

“At some point in December 2023, the defendant made advances to the plaintiff. Whenever he met the plaintiff at the fountain, he asked her for sex, which she always refused.

One afternoon, the accused saw the plaintiff at the well and asked her to have sexual intercourse with her. When the plaintiff refused, the accused grabbed her by the hand, tied her mouth with a cloth and dragged her to a nearby banana plantation where he pushed her to the ground and raped her. The matter came to light when the plaintiff confided the rape incident to her friend two days later,” the Zimbabwe National Prosecuting Authority said in a statement.
