Teens arrested for school basketball court shooting

SAN JUAN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Several minors were arrested over a physical altercation that led to a shooting, according to San Juan police.

Police responded to the outdoor basketball courts at PSJA Carman Elementary School at 8:15 p.m. Friday after a juvenile pulled out a handgun during an argument.


According to authorities, a witness at the scene followed the minors after the group left the basketball court in a vehicle.

While the group of teenagers was being chased, one of them fired a pistol at the witness who was following them.

No injuries to the witness were reported.

The San Juan Criminal Investigation Department’s investigation led to the execution of a search warrant.

Police recovered the pistol and ammunition that may have been used in the incident.

“The San Juan Police Department assures the community that this was an isolated incident. We remain true to our commitment to ensuring the safety of all residents by conducting thorough and expeditious investigations to apprehend and remove offenders from our streets,” said Police Chief Sifuentes.

The police did not provide any information about the identity of the young people.
