“It’s like a slum. We call them slum lords” – That’s what one resident told 11Alive about her frustration with living conditions at the Woodland Heights apartment complex on Center Street NW.

She has lived here for over a decade and feels that most of the housing is unsuitable for people.

“We have mold in the house. We have sewer problems. If you complain, management won’t do much. It’s like they change direction every three months,” the resident added.

The apartment complex is managed by FPI Management, which, according to its website, operates more than 160,000 properties.

But residents believe the company is not fulfilling its obligations.

“The management doesn’t care because they’re not their children. It’s not the people they know who live here, so they don’t care. They will pack their bags and go about their business,” another resident explained to us.

The city of Atlanta plans to hold a civil violation hearing in municipal court on Wednesday.

A notice of hearing states that at least one of the properties located at 2500 Center Street NW “violates the Atlanta Housing Code.”

If the resort is found to be in violation, they will have to make “abatements” to the property or face a fine of one thousand dollars for each day of non-compliance.

From the outset of our coverage of this story, we attempted to contact FPI, first in January and again today. We didn’t get a response.
