Investigation of domestic violence and shootings involving police officers

SPRING, TX – On May 24, 2024, at approximately 8:20 p.m., officers with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a reported domestic violence incident involving a subject armed with a knife. Upon arrival, officers encountered a male offender who resisted all verbal commands to drop the knife and surrender.

The man, known to have mental health issues, was reportedly suffering from a manic episode, prompting his family to call the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. Despite efforts to de-escalate the situation, the suspect advanced toward officers with the knife. Fearing for their safety, an officer fired his weapon, striking the suspect. Tragically, the man succumbed to his injuries at the scene. None of the officers were injured in the incident. The deceased has been identified as 21-year-old Kedrayn Blueford.

This shooting is currently being thoroughly investigated by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Homicide and Violent Crimes Unit, along with crime scene investigators, the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, and the Texas Rangers.

Sheriff Rand Henderson issued the following statement:
“Our deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the person involved in this evening’s tragic incident. We are deeply saddened by this loss and understand the immense grief and pain the family is experiencing. Our thoughts are also with our MPs who are deeply affected by this unfortunate event.”
