US couple charged with sexually abusing, burning and shooting 15-year-old girl

A Louisiana couple has been arrested in connection with the attempted murder of their 15-year-old daughter during a traffic stop by police. Latonya Ann Harris, 40, and Terrence Washington, 41, of Thibodaux, Louisiana, were arrested on multiple violent offenses following a traffic accident in Baytown, Texas, on April 20.

Police found a 15-year-old victim in the back seat of the car with severe burns and multiple gunshots. After an investigation, US authorities determined that the teenage victim had suffered serious injuries at the hands of her mother and her mother’s boyfriend. “Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet has confirmed the arrest of a Thibodaux couple in connection with an attempted murder investigation uncovered during a traffic-related investigation by the Baytown Police Department in Texas,” the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office said (TPSO) in a statement released on May 15.

Due to the severity of the teen’s injuries, she was taken to a nearby hospital. Latonya Harris was also hospitalized for accidental injuries. Subsequently, information was obtained from an interview with Terrence, who admitted to shooting the victim during an altercation with Harris at her Thibodaux home. A search warrant for the family’s home confirmed evidence of a firearm, traces of blood, and strong odors suggestive of infection and decaying flesh.
