Atlanta United’s Saba Lobjanidze called up by Georgia for European Championships

Attacking midfielder Thiago Almada has not been included in Argentina’s squad for friendlies ahead of the Copa America, which kicks off with the World Cup champions taking on Canada on June 20 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, making unlikely to be on the team’s roster for the tournament. However, he will likely be named in their squad for the Paris Olympics. He was captain of the team that qualified for the Olympics. Men’s soccer at the Paris Games is scheduled to begin on July 24 and the gold medal match is scheduled to be played on August 9.

Atlanta United are scheduled to play seven matches from June 14 to July 14, when the Euros are scheduled, and at least two League Cup matches during the Olympics.

Additionally, the club rejected several offers from Mexico’s Cruz Azul for striker Giorgos Giakoumakis. Journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that Cruz Azul will make an offer on Wednesday. It has not yet been received. Atlanta United declined to comment, citing its policy of not commenting on transfer reports. The LIGA MX transfer window opens on June 24. Atlanta United paid a reported fee of $4.3 million for Giakoumakis. He has an annual salary of $2.25 million, according to the MLSPA.
