Education advocate Mitch Houston sworn in as Clear Creek County District II commissioner

Mitch Houston was sworn in to his District II seat on the Clear Creek County Board of Commissioners on May 21.

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis appointed Houston commissioner after the seat remained vacant following the May 6 death of Sean Wood, who represented District II for nearly eight years.

Houston currently serves as executive director of the Clear Creek Schools Foundation and served as president of the Clear Creek School District Board of Education from 2013-2021.

“I am honored and humbled to have the opportunity to fill the vacancy on the Clear Creek County Board of Commissioners,” Houston said in a statement to the Courant. “I am committed to continuing Commissioner Wood’s legacy of dedicated public service and look forward to working collaboratively with the County Commissioners and staff.”

As the governor’s chosen commissioner, Houston will serve until at least January 14, 2025, after the November public election.

“I look forward to working with Commissioner Houston and the county to continue to improve Colorado’s way of life,” Polis said.
