Two people were found dead in a “human-dug” cave north of Los Angeles

Two people were found dead in a human-dug cave north of Los Angeles along with a white, powdery substance, authorities said.

The Los Angeles Fire Department said in a news release Sunday that firefighters found two dead people and a “white powdery substance” in a “human-dug cave/excavation” in Northridge just after 10:30 a.m. Sunday. The site where the bodies were discovered is about 25 miles north of downtown Los Angeles.

No danger outside the premises

The fire department later said that hazardous materials specialists “scanned the area and found all readings to be normal,” adding that the wind scattered the white powder. They did not specify what type of white powder it was, other than to say there was no “off-site hazard” or risk to the public.
