Alleged Bronx Belt rapist hangs head after being arrested on violent sexual assault charges

The suspect in a shockingly violent sexual assault in the Bronx was led away in handcuffs and brought to court on Saturday.

According to police sources, 39-year-old Kashaan Parks of the Belmont section of the Bronx was taken into custody on May 11 after investigators announced they had identified him the day before and promised a quick arrest. He was apparently hiding in another apartment in the Bronx when he was picked up by the Warren posse.

Parks gained internet notoriety over the week after leaked surveillance videos that apparently first appeared on WhatsApp and then made the rounds online showed Parks wrapping a belt around a 45-year-old woman’s neck on May 1 before dragging her along 152nd Street and 3rd Avenue. The suspect pulled her between two parked cars, police said, and then raped his victim.

However, the victim apparently did not report the heinous crime, according to NYPD Detective Joseph Kenny. However, police officers say they immediately launched an investigation when they came to know about the despicable crime.

The victim cooperated with police and helped finger the attacker through his seemingly prominent teeth.

“Our victim stated that she had seen him before; she actually described his teeth to us; he had unusual teeth,” Chief Kenny explained. “She said he had space between his teeth.”

Police believe Parks became angry after a conversation that included possible payment for a sexual encounter that never materialized.

News of the brutal rape turned the stomachs of thousands of New Yorkers, including elected officials who praised the arrest.

“All violent attacks are traumatic, and some are particularly impressive. The video of this attack was horrifying to watch. “I join the rest of the city in being glad that the arrest was made quickly,” prosecutor Jumaane Williams wrote on X.

Parks has been arrested five times, most notably a domestic violence arrest in 2018; Another arrest occurred in 2013 for jumping the turnstile.

He was escorted from the Special Victims Unit in the Bronx on Saturday afternoon with his hands cuffed behind his back in a Tyvek suit. He did not respond to his alleged crimes.

Kashaan Parks is charged with first-degree rape, second-degree assault, second-degree strangulation, first-degree sexual abuse, first-degree public indecency and first-degree harassment.
