The Tigers had a chance to win the first game of the series, but like many games over the past few months, Detroit couldn’t get the job done.

Friday night, the Tigers took a 2-1 lead heading into the eighth inning, but ended up allowing four runs. The home team never recovered, losing 5-2, marking Detroit’s sixth loss in its last seven games. Back at .500, the Bengals are still fourth in the American League Central, 4.5 games behind the first-place Cleveland Guardians.

The Astros are tied for fourth in the AL West with the Los Angeles Angels, 7.5 behind the Texas Rangers for first place.

Andy Ibanez had two of the Tigers’ seven hits in the loss, with Matt Vierling driving in both of the team’s runs. Andrew Chafin took the loss, allowing three earned runs before recording one out in the eighth inning.

Kyle Tucker hit his 12th homer of the season in the sixth inning, while Yordan Alvarez and Jeremy Pena each had two hits.

PROBABLE STARTERS
