SHASTA COUNTY, California. – A Cottonwood man was arrested on drug charges for the fifth time this year.

At approximately 12:40 p.m., a deputy with the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office Ab109 Compliance Team in Redding stopped a car for a traffic violation.

The driver of the car was identified as 52-year-old Ryan Lamar Montgomery, the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office said. During that stop, K-9 Ace and his handler were called to assist. This led to a search as Ace was alerted to the presence of drugs.

Montgomery’s car was searched and drug paraphernalia was found inside, the SCSO said.

Montgomery was arrested three times on drug charges in January of this year.

On January 3, he was arrested after a search warrant was served on his Cottonwood home. Police found marijuana for sale and weapons were also found. Just two days later, he was stopped during a traffic stop and arrested for being in possession of approximately 10 ounces of meth for sale.

On January 26, Montgomery was arrested for being found in possession of over 2 kilograms of meth for sale, according to the SCSO.

Because of Montgomery’s recent and repeated offenses related to dealing and selling meth in Shasta County, officers suspected he was hiding drugs on his person, the SCSO said.

Montgomery was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and taken to the Shasta County Jail. While in jail, he admitted to hiding drugs in his pants.

Officers found about 14 grams of meth and numerous prescription drugs in separate packages in Montgomery’s groin area, the SCSO said.

The Shasta Interagency Narcotics Task Force was called in and took over the investigation.

SINTF investigators then served a search warrant for Montgomery’s home in the 4000 block of Pleasant Court in Cottonwood.

During the search, approximately 4.51 kilograms of meth were found hidden in his home, the SCSO said.

Investigators also found ammunition components, rifle cartridge cases, pistol cartridge cases and items consistent with drug trafficking on decorations in the home. Montgomery is a convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing ammunition and ammunition components, the SCSO said.
