Fatal shooting in Newark under investigation

Authorities in Essex County are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred overnight in a Newark neighborhood.

The incident occurred shortly before 12:30 a.m. at the intersection of 4th Avenue and North 12th Street.

Responding to reports of gunfire, Newark Police arrived at the scene and discovered evidence of a shooting, including ballistic material on the ground.

This prompted an investigation of the crime scene. The victim was urgently taken to the University Hospital, where medical staff performed CPR during the journey.

Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.

The Essex County District Attorney’s Office has taken over the investigation to determine the motive for the attack.

So far, no one has been arrested in connection with the shooting.
