Two suspects arrested and charged in shooting death of 80-year-old woman

SAN ANTONIO – Two teenagers were arrested on murder charges after an 80-year-old woman was shot and killed.

On Saturday around 7 p.m., police on the Southside arrested two juvenile suspects in connection with the shooting of Heidi Silkworth on May 26.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus spoke to reporters about the arrests on Saturday and announced the arrest of 19-year-old Jacob Rios and a 16-year-old boy.

During their investigation, police determined that the shooting was the result of an armed robbery of a person near the corner of East Cesar Chavez and South Alamo Streets in downtown.

After the robbery, the victim and the suspects shot at each other as they fled. 80-year-old Heidi Silkworth was caught in the crossfire.

Silkworth, of Euless, Texas, was a passenger in a vehicle leaving the closing ceremony at the Alamodome.

A 19-year-old involved in the altercation was shot and taken to hospital in critical condition.
