Two people arrested in Fond du Lac after chase while smoking fentanyl

Two Green Bay residents were arrested in Fond du Lac after leading police on a reckless, high-speed chase through several counties Sunday evening. Events began around 6:30 p.m. when a State Patrol trooper began pursuing a stolen vehicle southbound on I-41 in Winnebago County. Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s officers then prepared to pursue it. However, the vehicle left the city of Oshkosh and headed southbound on Lakeshore Drive.

Officers located the vehicle, which now had a different license plate, and pursued it as it passed several vehicles, narrowly missing some northbound vehicles. The pursuit was called off for safety reasons until it resumed near Taycheeda, where the pursuit entered Highway 151 and then diverged onto Johnson Street, where more traffic had to swerve to avoid collisions. Several PIT maneuvers were required to finally stop the vehicle, which eventually struck a tree.

The 23-year-old driver and a 22-year-old passenger, who admitted to smoking fentanyl during the chase, were treated for minor injuries and arrested. Both had warrants out for their arrest and will face several additional charges following the chase.
