Medical suspensions at UFC Denver: Cody Brundage suspended indefinitely after illegal strikes led to elimination from the competition

Medical suspensions for the recent UFC Denver card have been lifted, and some fighters face an indefinite break until they are cleared by a doctor.

The Colorado Combative Sports Commission issued the suspensions and sent the full list to MMA Fighting on Thursday.

At the top of the list of suspensions is likely veteran middleweight Cody Brundage, who had a short but tough night in his home fight. His furious start to the fight against Abdul Razak Alhassan ended abruptly after referee Dan Miragliotta stopped the fight and Brundage took several illegal blows to the back of the head.

Miragliotta had issued a warning to Alhassan just seconds earlier when he blocked a takedown from Brundage while throwing a barrage of punches and elbows. When the fight was stopped, Brundage had time to recover, but he struggled to get back to his feet after taking the blow to the back of the head.

On the advice of the cage doctor, Brundage was not allowed to continue and Miragliotta declared the fight void after only 38 seconds in the first round.

Brundage has now been suspended indefinitely by the commission until he receives clearance to return to the UFC through a CT scan and a letter from his doctor.

Welterweight boxer Ange Loosa was also suspended indefinitely by the commission due to a cut on his toe. He must have the injury confirmed by his doctor before he can compete again.

These were the only indefinite suspensions imposed by UFC Denver.
