Two teenagers arrested for armed car theft after police chase

CHARLOTTE, NC (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Two teenagers – 13 and 14 years old – were arrested for armed carjacking after leading Charlotte-Meck police on a chase.

On July 16, shortly before 9 p.m., officers from the CMPD Metro Division responded to an armed carjacking in the 300 block of South Summit Avenue. The victim stated that his vehicle was stolen at gunpoint by two suspects.


Early Wednesday morning around 10 a.m., officers responded to a license plate reader hit on a stolen vehicle in the Freedom area.

Officers attempted to stop traffic on Queen City Drive. The vehicle fled, and a chase began.

The vehicle continued on I-85 South and into Gaston County before returning to Mecklenburg County on I-85. The pursuit ended when the two juvenile suspects jumped up and ran away in the area of ​​Hickory Bluff Court.

Both suspects were arrested and officers found a handgun near the stolen vehicle.

The North Carolina Juvenile Court had filed a motion to order the North Carolina Special Administrative Region custody of the juveniles, but the motion was denied.
