Two calves killed in wolf attacks in Routt County

Colorado Parks and Wildlife has confirmed two more wolf attacks on livestock in Routt County this month.

The fatal attacks included the killing of one calf on July 7 and another on July 10, according to CPW officials who prepared an autopsy report confirming the incidents.

The first fatal wolf attack reported in the county occurred on June 15. Colorado Parks and Wildlife does not release public information about the attacks, but confirms them in an online database.

Since ten wolves were reintroduced to Colorado in December, there have been twelve confirmed wolf attacks in Grand, Jackson and Routt counties, according to the database.

Since their release, one female wolf was killed by a mountain lion, while another female wolf gave birth to a wolf cub, according to CPW officials.

CPW publishes a map each month showing collard gray wolf activity. In June, the map, which uses watershed boundaries to show the general area where the wolves were roaming, showed the animals moving into Eagle and Summit counties while retreating from some parts of Routt and Grand counties.
