Delaware County man convicted of raping minor

DELAWARE, Ohio (WCMH) — A 38-year-old Delaware man must serve a minimum of eight years in prison after being found guilty of raping a minor.

Kyle Butler was found guilty of rape by a Delaware County jury on July 11 after a three-day trial, according to Delaware County District Attorney Melissa Schiffel. Butler was subsequently sentenced to eight to 12 years in prison by Judge Schuck on Monday.

Schiffel noted that the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation in July 2020 after the victim reported the crime to a family member. According to court documents, the 15-year-old minor, “Jane Doe,” told police that Butler forcibly performed sexual acts on her.

“Rape is often a crime committed in secret and behind closed doors. Without the strength of this victim and her strong support system, Butler may never have experienced the justice system,” Schiffel said.

The district attorney’s office did not provide any further details about the incident.
