A Florida woman was charged Tuesday with first-degree murder for shooting her child’s father last month because of his reaction to a dirty diaper.

A Seminole County grand jury indicted 38-year-old Laurie Adams of Winter Springs on a charge of first-degree premeditated murder with a firearm in connection with the shooting death of 51-year-old Adel Tawfeek after hearing testimony from a Winter Springs police investigator.

On June 5, Winter Springs Police officers responded to a report of a man shot at a home on Sheoah Boulevard. Officers found Tawfeek unconscious with a gunshot wound to the head. Tawfeek was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

According to police, Adams admitted to shooting Tawfeek over an argument about the care of her son. Investigators say Tawfeek came home around 11:30 p.m. on June 4 to find her son had wet himself. Adams reportedly told police that Tawfeek yelled at her and attacked her after she cleaned the child and put him to bed.

Adams allegedly admitted that after taking some time to compose herself, she got a gun from Tawfeek’s closet and loaded it. She allegedly saw Tawfeek smoking on the porch, walked over and shot him in the head.

Adams has been held in the Seminole County Jail since her arrest, with no bail set. A court date has not yet been scheduled.
