Digital attendance of teachers suspended until further notice in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow:

The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday decided to suspend its order on digital attendance of teachers until further notice and set up a committee to submit its report on the matter.

Various teachers’ organisations protested against the decision and were supported by the opposition parties, including the BSP and the Samajwadi Party.

“The decision to introduce digital attendance control for teachers has been postponed until further notice. It has been decided to form an expert committee to listen to the problems and suggestions of the teachers and submit its report,” said an official statement issued here.

This committee will include representatives of the Ministry of Education, members of the teachers’ union and educators. It will examine all aspects of education and make suggestions for improvement. Digital teaching will be suspended until further notice. Any further decision will be made on the basis of the committee’s report, it said.

The decision was taken after a meeting between Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh and representatives of the Education Ministry and teachers’ organisations.

Addressing the gathering, Singh said that providing quality education to children was the government’s top priority.

“There is a need for fundamental changes in the education sector. Teachers play an important role in providing quality education to students. Without quality education for children, the Prime Minister’s goal of developing India by 2047 cannot be achieved,” he said.

In a statement released in June, the Yogi Adityanath government announced plans to digitize all 12 types of registers in the state’s schools and introduce a digital attendance system for teachers and students.

Both students and teachers would have to mark their attendance using a facial recognition system on tablets, it said.

This procedure is to be implemented nationwide from July 15, it was said.
