Police team in Bengal attacked and shot at while trying to catch fraudster

A West Bengal Police team was attacked and fired upon on Monday while trying to arrest a man accused of selling fake gold in Kultali in South 24 Parganas district.

Fortunately, the bullet fired at the police missed its target and no police officer was injured.

The police have arrested two women in connection with the attack on the task force.

District police sources said a police team had reached Saddam Lashkar’s residence to arrest him based on a complaint.

When the police vehicle reached his residence, the police team was attacked by family members of the accused and some local anti-social elements.

One of the men even fired a shot at the police unit, which fortunately missed its target.

Following the incident, scuffles broke out between the police and the anti-social elements. In the ensuing scuffle, Saddam Lashkar fled the area.

The police have launched a large-scale manhunt to track him down.

West Bengal has been in the news for some time now due to mob attacks on investigating officers.

In January this year, an ED team and accompanying Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel were attacked by local people when they tried to storm the residence of local ruler and Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan at Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas district.

In April this year, an NIA team was attacked after it reached Bhapatinagar in East Midnapore district to investigate an explosion that occurred in December 2022 and killed three people.
