Jordan Addison’s Timeline of Troubles: Vikings WR arrested for DUI after speeding in 2023

Jordan Addison came to Minnesota with the hope that he would form the best receiver duo in the NFL alongside Justin Jefferson, and the Vikings have seen just that all season.

Addison stepped in when Jefferson was out injured and had two 100-yard games. Despite the unstable quarterback situation following Kirk Cousins’ season-ending Achilles tendon tear, he finished the season with a promising 911 yards.

The Vikings invested heavily in Jefferson this offseason and positioned themselves to draft JJ McCarthy as their quarterback of the future. McCarthy will have Jefferson and Addison in his arsenal this season, but further legal troubles for Addison this offseason could cast doubt on the second-year receiver’s long-term prospects in Minnesota.

Here’s what you need to know about Addison’s drunk driving arrest and his previous legal troubles.

Jordan Addison arrested under the influence of alcohol

According to the Los Angeles Daily News, Addison was suspected of driving under the influence on Friday. The incident occurred near Los Angeles International Airport.

Addison was not driving but was found asleep at the wheel while blocking a lane on a ramp near the airport. The 22-year-old spent his final college season in Los Angeles while playing for USC.

The Vikings released a statement confirming Addison’s arrest and saying they were aware of the news and “are currently gathering additional information regarding the incident.”

It’s been a difficult month for the Vikings, as rookie cornerback Khyree Jackson was killed in a car crash while a passenger just a week before Addison’s incident. Jackson was one of three people who died when another car attempted to change lanes at a high rate of speed in Maryland.

Addison got in trouble for speeding last season. Here’s a look at the timeline of his troubles.

Jordan Addison’s Timeline of Problems

2023 Speeding, reckless driving

Addison was charged with speeding and reckless driving in June 2023 for driving 140 mph in a 55 mph zone. He pleaded guilty to speeding and a deal was reached in which the reckless driving charge was dropped. As a result of the deal, Addison only had to pay a $686 fine.

Addison said he “made a mistake and demonstrated poor judgment” in the incident and said he would “learn from it and not repeat the behavior,” although he later attributed his decision to an emergency involving his dog.

The shocking 140 mph speed brought back memories among NFL fans of former Raiders receiver Henry Ruggs III, who drove up to 155 mph while under the influence of alcohol and killed a woman in a crash in Las Vegas. Ruggs is currently serving a 3-10 year prison sentence.

Although Addison was not under the influence of alcohol at the time, he was fortunate to have avoided a similar incident with far more serious consequences than a simple summons.

2024 DUI Arrest

Addison was arrested in Los Angeles on July 12 on suspicion of drunken driving. Addison was found asleep at the wheel of a white Rolls-Royce near Los Angeles International Airport.

Although Addison was not behind the wheel at the time of his arrest, he was reportedly blocking a lane near the airport.

The Vikings released a statement confirming Addison’s arrest, but the 22-year-old receiver has not yet commented on the matter.
