MLS fines Galaxy $100,000 and strips fan groups of privileges for misconduct at July 4 game

Major League Soccer has fined LA Galaxy for the misconduct of its fan groups during the team’s game against LAFC on July 4, the league announced Friday.

During the rivalry game at the Rose Bowl, fans in the stands lit flares.

The Galaxy was fined $100,000 and will be subject to league oversight of safety and fan management processes. Fan privileges for all LA Galaxy fan groups have been suspended indefinitely pending a comprehensive review, the league said.

This is the same punishment LAFC received in 2023 for similar fan violations.

“In coordination with MLS, LA Galaxy agrees to fully investigate the incident. Violations will be subject to additional penalties, indefinite suspensions and all appropriate legal action,” the league said in a statement.

The Galaxy said it was “prepared to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the July 4, 2024 incident in coordination with MLS.”

“The LA Galaxy will continue to strive to provide a safe and welcoming environment for all fans and their families at Dignity Health Sports Park and all venues where our club plays matches,” the statement said. “The club is committed to working closely with our fan groups, which includes adhering to the MLS Fan Code of Conduct. The LA Galaxy will continue to provide a supportive and safe environment for all fans to enjoy soccer.”
