Police investigating possible link between two Buffalo deaths

Homicide detectives are investigating possible links between an alleged murder and a fatal fire that occurred early Saturday, Buffalo police spokesman Michael J. DeGeorge said.

According to the report, authorities said the victims — a 24-year-old woman who died after being stabbed during an apparent domestic dispute and a 24-year-old man found dead after a fire shortly afterward — knew each other.

Officers responded shortly after 3:30 a.m. to a call about a stabbing in the 700 block of Ashland Avenue, near Bird Avenue, in the Elmwood Village neighborhood, DeGeorge said.

They found a woman who had been stabbed and slashed. She was taken by ambulance to Erie County Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.

The fire call came in just before 4 a.m. at 62 Dash St., near South Park Avenue in South Buffalo. DeGeorge said the fire started on the first floor and the man, who lived at that address, was found dead in a back bedroom on the first floor. Autopsies will be performed to determine the causes of both deaths, DeGeorge noted.
