Berhampur (Odisha), July 11 (PTI) – Five people were arrested for the alleged gang rape of a 30-year-old woman in Ganjam district of Odisha, police said on Thursday.

The incident took place on Tuesday evening in an area near Khairapalli under the jurisdiction of Kabisurya Nagar police station when the accused attacked the woman over a dispute over money and gang-raped her, a senior officer said.

“We have arrested all five accused involved in the incident from the district,” said Ganjam SP Jagmohan Meena.

The woman was rescued by police and is currently receiving treatment, he said.

The incident could have been traced to a money dispute in the ganja trade involving the victim and the accused, an official said after a preliminary investigation.

“The medical report of the victim is awaited. A district DSP has been instructed to speak to the victim for further investigation,” the SP added.
