Two teenage brothers found dead in suspected drowning

SANFORD, Maine – Police are investigating the deaths of two teenage brothers whose bodies were found in the water at Holdsworth Park in Springvale Sunday evening.

The cause of death in both cases appears to be drowning, Sanford Police Major Matthew Gagne said in a press release Monday morning.

“No third-party negligence is suspected at this time,” Gagne said.

Since the brothers are minors, the police are not releasing their names.

At around 11 p.m. on Sunday, police received a call informing them that the two 17-year-old brothers had not returned home on time. Police were told the brothers had gone swimming at Holdsworth Park, known locally as “The Rec,” Gagne said.
