Coroner reveals name of 14-year-old allegedly killed because of headphones

SHREVEPORT, Louisiana (KTAL/KMSS) – A teenager who was shot and fatally wounded in Shreveport’s Bilberry Park neighborhood on Sunday has been identified by the Caddo Parish coroner.

Deidrick D. James, 14, was killed during an alleged argument over a pair of headphones.


Authorities have recovered the weapon used in the shooting, which occurred in the 3000 block of Lakeshore Drive just before 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 6.

James was taken to Ochsner LSU Health Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries at 5:22 p.m.

Police allege the victim had headphones that belonged to the suspect and pushed the suspect when he asked for his headphones back. The suspect then allegedly shot the victim and fled the scene.

No one was arrested in this case.

An autopsy has been ordered and Shreveport police continue to investigate the death, which marks the 38th homicide in Caddo Parish this year.

James’ death is the 35th in Shreveport in 2024.
