Man stabs father five times for stopping him from raping his niece

A man from the Bulawayo suburb of Pumula South allegedly stabbed his father five times because the father stopped him from beating his niece, who accused him of trying to rape her.

Busani Casper Mlauzi recently appeared before Western Cape Regional Judge Sibongile Msipa-Marondedze and was charged with attempted murder. He pleaded guilty. He apologised to his father Flyson Mlauzi (72) and asked the court to forgive him.

“I am really sorry for what I did. I was under the influence of Broncleer syrup and Njengu. I don’t know how I stabbed my father. I am ashamed of what I did,” he said.

However, the judge convicted him and imposed a 10-year prison sentence, with five years suspended on the condition that he does not commit a similar crime within five years. The judge said drug abuse is a cause of concern for the country and the government is fighting hard to end the epidemic.

The judge said Busani’s behavior was a danger to society and if a family member had not restrained him, he would have killed his father. She said this was to send a signal to potential perpetrators that Busani deserved a prison sentence.

The court heard that on March 23 this year at around 11.30pm, Busani came home drunk, entered his niece’s room and allegedly attempted to sexually assault her.

However, the alert minor stormed out of her room and ran into her grandfather’s bedroom. Busani chased her. The minor screamed, which woke up her grandfather. He tried to hold back his son, who was lunging at his niece, but things got bad for Mlauzi.

Busani stabbed him five times, he fell and collapsed, then fled. Mlauzi was taken to hospital and the incident was reported to the police, which led to his arrest.
