One man died and two others were injured after being electrocuted at the dock at Smith Mountain Lake on Thursday morning

BEDFORD COUNTY, Virginia. — One man is dead and two others were injured after an electrocution at a dock on Smith Mountain Lake Thursday morning, according to the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office.

We have been informed that police received a 911 call in the early hours of this morning regarding a possible drowning accident at Smith Mountain Lake.

According to Bedford County, fire, rescue and police units arrived on scene and learned from friends and family that two of them jumped into the water to help when they realized the victim was in distress.

The two people who jumped into the water suffered immediate shock but were able to get the victim out and begin CPR before emergency responders arrived on the scene, the sheriff’s office said.

The victim was taken to hospital where he died, we were informed. The two witnesses who assisted in the accident were treated at the scene and released.

As 10 News learned, the victim was an adult male who was visiting friends and family from out of state.

The sheriff’s office said an official investigation is underway and they are currently waiting for the medical examiner to determine the exact cause of death.

At present, no third-party liability is suspected.
