Police surround house in Rensselaer after ‘swatting’ incident

Rensselaer police surrounded a home Wednesday because they believed someone had shot at his family, but it was actually a false “swatting” call.

Officers from multiple police agencies responded to a call to a residence in the 2000 block of 10th At about 9:45 p.m., a man was arrested on the street after receiving a report of a person barricaded in their apartment after a shooting, Rensselaer police said.

After questioning the people on site, investigators concluded that the call was a swatting incident involving a video game.

According to police, these fake incidents continue to increase and pose a very dangerous threat.
