According to a report in TOI, the legal proceedings began with a zero FIR filed at Uppal police station based on the survivor’s complaint. Subsequently, the case was transferred to Miyapur police station, where the offence was committed.

Investigations revealed that the two accused had picked up their colleague near a hostel in Miyapur on Sunday morning, ostensibly for a construction site inspection in Yadadri. While returning to Hyderabad, the accused stopped the vehicle near an under-construction building at around 10.30 pm, claiming that it had broken down. They initially offered her food, which she refused. Janardhan then offered her a soft drink and a sweet. Soon after, the woman felt dizzy, a police official said, adding that she initially thought it was because she had not eaten anything all day. However, when Janardhan gave her more sweets, she fell unconscious, police said.

Police said the attackers took advantage of the victim’s vulnerability and sexually assaulted, physically abused and tortured her until the early hours of Monday. “The two took advantage of this and undressed her, touched her inappropriately, raped her and even beat her,” the police officer told TOI, adding that the woman was tortured until 3 am on Monday.
