3 Third Basemen the Atlanta Braves Should Target in the 2024 MLB Draft

Over the past two weeks, we’ve looked at some names at each infield position that the Atlanta Braves should consider targeting in the upcoming 2024 MLB Draft. Today, we officially wrap up the infield picture with third base.

Similar to a few positions mentioned previously, third base isn’t necessarily the club’s biggest need heading into this year’s draft, solely because Austin Riley has earned the job going forward.

However, because of the designated hitter, it’s still possible the Braves take a look at the third base position in July, perhaps even in the upper rounds. If they do, here are three names they should keep an eye on.

Billy Amick (Tennessee)

After batting .413 at Clemson in 2023, Amick transferred to Tennessee last offseason where he continued to cut .307/.389/.645 with 23 HR and 65 RBI for the National Champions this spring. A player who also played defensive first base, Amick is expected to come off the board at some point in the first round and could be an attractive option for the Braves at the 24th pick.

Gage Miller (Alabama)

Miller, another college prospect to watch from the SEC, likely established himself as a first-round pick after a standout solo season at Alabama. After transferring from JUCO, Miller hit .381/.474/.702 with 18 HR and 56 RBI, and brings experience at several different positions on the defensive end.

Dub Gleed (University of California, Irvine)

Finally, an intriguing name to watch outside of the first three rounds is Gleed, who has played every infield position over the past three seasons at UC Irvine. With a career OPS of .856 over that span, Gleed is also coming off arguably his best collegiate season at UC Irvine, where he halved .351/.469/.550 with six HR and 35 RBI.

Could any of these three names end up in the Atlanta Braves organization after the 2024 MLB Draft? If not, here are a few more third basemen the Braves could target in the upper rounds: Carson DeMartini (Virginia Tech), Kale Fountain (Norris, NE), Robert Hipwell (Santa Clara)
