Man arrested for fentanyl overdose in 2023

The charges include manslaughter using controlled substances.

SPOKANE, Wash. – A man has been arrested and charged in connection with the 2023 fentanyl overdose of a 67-year-old man.

On Thursday, June 27, the U.S. Marshals Pacific North West Violent Offenders Task Force arrested 61-year-old Randy S. Brown.

According to authorities, Brown allegedly sold the victim counterfeit fentanyl pills, which resulted in the victim’s death.

Investigators said they were able to identify Brown as a suspect based on messages he sent to the victim.

Brown was booked into the Spokane County Jail on $100,000 bail. His next court date is July 9.

In 2023, the Spokane Fire Department received up to 1,600 overdose reports, an average of four per day.

In the first 38 days of 2024 alone, the SFD responded to 249 emergency calls for overdoses – an average of six per day.
