‘Negligence’: Congress blames Modi for Delhi airport Terminal 1 accident; central government issues clarification | Latest India News

The Congress on Friday blamed the Narendra Modi-led government for the collapse of a portion of the canopy outside Terminal 1 of Delhi airport, saying the victims had to bear the brunt of the actions of the “corrupt, inept and selfish government”. The party also accused the central government of corruption and criminal negligence.

Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, pointing out that the latter had praised his governance when he inaugurated a building near Terminal 1 of Delhi airport. The central government, however, clarified that PM Modi inaugurated a different building, not the one in question.

Mallikarjun Kharge said the accident refuted Prime Minister Modi’s claim that India would have world-class infrastructure under his rule.

“Corruption and criminal negligence are responsible for the collapse of the shoddy infrastructure that has collapsed like a house of cards over the past decade of the Modi government,” he wrote on X.

Kharge listed the incidents during Modi’s more than ten-year rule and said the incidents revealed the truth behind Modi’s big “promises”.

“On March 10, when Modi ji inaugurated Terminal 1 of Delhi airport, he called himself”Doosri Mitti was fine…“All this false bravado and rhetoric was just to conduct hasty opening ceremonies before the elections! Our deepest condolences go out to the victims of the Delhi airport tragedy. They have borne the brunt of a corrupt, inept and selfish government,” Kharge (sic) said.

Meanwhile, Union Minister for Civil Aviation Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu said the government was taking the accident seriously.

“I want to clarify that the building inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on the other side and the building that collapsed here is an old building which was inaugurated in 2009,” he added.

He announced compensation of 20 lakh for the deceased and 3 lakh for the injured.

Flight operations were severely affected by the accident. The authorities stopped departures from Terminal 1.
