Rodeo star Spencer Wright honors son Levi at his funeral after fatal toy tractor accident

In a time of great grief, Spencer Wright draws on memories of his late son Levi’s sense of humor.

The rodeo champion spoke to his three-year-old son Funeral service on June 11 and told a few stories about the boy that made those in attendance laugh. Spencer remembered his firstborn son as a “funny kid” and said everyone was “nice to Levi.”

In his brief speeches, the rodeo champion also thanked everyone for their support. At the beginning of the ceremony, he stood next to his wife Kallie and fought back tears as she spoke about her boy. At one point, she called Levi “as pure and tender as one can be” and said you just couldn’t be mad at him.

“His laughter will always be my favorite sound,” said the grieving mother.

Concluding her remarks, Kallie said, “We eagerly await the day when we can see him again.”

Kallie had been publicly sharing updates about her son since he had an accident with his electric toy tractor near a creek in late May. Levi was later hospitalized for two weeks before his early death on 2 June.

“His father was the one he looked up to the most,” his obituary reads. “He wanted to be just like him and was well on his way to achieving that.”

Days after Levi’s death, the mother of three children reflected on the accident that cost her son’s life and explained how it happened.

“If you haven’t been with me, it’s hard to imagine how something like this can happen. There’s a creek running through our 24 acre property that separates our house from Grandma and Grandpa’s. There’s a concrete road through that creek. That’s how we got to their house safely most days, because sometimes our dirt road is a Nascar race track. My kids have ridden bikes, driven their toy cars and even walked here a million times. Water only flows for a short time each year and can change overnight,” she wrote on Facebook. “Levi didn’t do anything he hasn’t done before, but this time the water was high and strong enough to push his tractor off the road into the creek as he drove through. He asked me to ride on his tractor and I explained that Grandma wasn’t home and that he shouldn’t drive through the creek or the road, just around the house. When he drove off, I ran back into the house. This is a decision that will haunt me for the rest of my life.”

Kallie continued, “In that moment, he was my responsibility alone. Whether I went back to check on my sleeping baby, change the laundry, wash a bottle, or put away lunch, I honestly don’t know. Whatever it was, it wasn’t more important than following him that day. While I firmly believe that our stories are written long before we arrive on this earth and that our Lord will take us when He is ready, I will forever have sleepless nights because of this, I know three things are true. 1. I am not a perfect mother, but I am a good mother. 2. My little boy loved me with everything he had. 3. Never say never, because it only takes seconds and it can happen to you too. I pray that no one who judges me or has hurtful words to say ever falls victim to such a nightmare.”
