UN suspends aid operations in Gaza without improved security measures – Official

Senior United Nations (UN) officials warned Israel that the organization would suspend aid operations throughout the Gaza Strip unless urgent measures were taken to better protect humanitarian workers, two UN officials said. APThe letter, in which Israel demands that UN staff be able to communicate directly with Israel Defense Forces (IDF) troops on the ground in Gaza, was sent on June 17.

Israel has acknowledged several military strikes against aid workers, including the Israeli attack that killed seven World Central Kitchen (WCK) workers in early April. However, Israel denies allegations of further attacks.

For security reasons, the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has already suspended aid deliveries from a pier built in the United States that was supposed to bring food and other emergency supplies by sea to Palestinians suffering from “catastrophic” hunger.

The UN and other aid agencies have said they have “no means of communicating quickly and directly with Israeli forces on the ground,” contrary to standard procedures known as “conflict avoidance” used in conflict zones around the world. AP.

According to the information, the humanitarian workers also want to address the increasing lawlessness in the Gaza Strip and call on Israel to do more to improve general security.

“Our site has been hit by rockets despite the absence of conflict,” said Steve Taravella, a WFP spokesman. “In the last two weeks, WFP camps have been caught in the crossfire twice.”
