Midnight accident: Ludhiana ASI vehicle runs over two PCR policemen, one dies | Chandigarh News

An assistant sub-inspector was arrested after he allegedly ran over two PCR (Police Control Room) policemen on night duty near Salem Tabri Chowk in Ludhiana with his private vehicle on Sunday.

One policeman was seriously injured in the accident and the other died. The deceased was identified as Akashdeep Singh – a 2009 batch recruit of the Punjab Police. The injured policeman, Satnam Singh, was admitted to the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) in Ludhiana.

According to sources, the accused, ASI Balwinder Singh, of Division Number 2 police station in Ludhiana, was under the influence of alcohol and was speeding at the time of the accident.

Ludhiana police commissioner Kuldeep Singh Chahal said, “We have booked Balwinder Singh under Section 304 (causing death by rash and negligent act). We have taken blood samples from Balwinder Singh to see whether he was under the influence of alcohol or not. We have arrested him now.”

The deceased Akashdeep Singh leaves behind his wife and two minor children. Police authorities said that his family will be paid compensation commensurate with his service.
