Gunshots ‘out of nowhere’ killed 3-year-old boy in Buffalo

Buffalo, NY (WBEN) – Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown was visibly shaken and disturbed as he delivered the grim news of a Friday night shooting in the city that left a 3-year-old boy dead and injured her 7 year old son. sister during a family reunion on Domedion Avenue.

“Out of nowhere, gunshots ring out and kids are hit by gunfire,” Brown said, adding that he was heartbroken by the incident.

Police said they interviewed two people of interest in the shooting Friday evening and a firearm recovered at the scene is being tested by law enforcement as evidence.

“There are witnesses to this horrific crime, and those responsible for the murder of this 3-year-old boy should be brought to justice,” Erie County District Attorney Michael Keane said at a press briefing. Saturday with journalists.

As the investigation continues and police seek video of the incident, investigators are convinced the shooting was the work of one suspect and a single weapon.

Buffalo Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia says the city is unfortunately no stranger to deadly gun violence in which children are the victims. “Well, here we are again, talking about a murdered baby, senselessly gunned down on the streets of the city of Buffalo,” Gramaglia said, reminding reporters of a 2018 incident that claimed the lives of an 18 month old child. and a 5 year old child in 2021.

Gramaglia said officers quickly arrived on scene and found the 3-year-old victim and said, “They picked up this baby, put him in the back of a police car and ran toward ECMC.”

The 3-year-old girl was pronounced dead at ECMC while the 7-year-old sister was taken by ambulance to Children’s Hospital where she was treated for a graze wound and is expected to be OK.

Mayor Brown was quick to say he was “fed up” with all the gun violence and was tired of dealing with incidents involving illegal weapons. “There is no reason for all these illegal guns to be on the streets…there are too many illegal guns on the streets of the United States of America.”
