63-year-old pilot and 73-year-old passenger from Virginia killed in plane crash in Fluvanna County

FLUVANNA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) – The Pilot and passenger killed A plane crash in Fluvanna County Sunday morning has been identified by Virginia State Police.

Authorities said the pilot, 63-year-old John W. Latham of Prince William County, and the passenger, 73-year-old Niiben CA Ayivorh of Fairfax County, died in the crash.


This came after the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at 8:54 a.m. Sunday, May 5, from residents in the 200 block of Miles Jackson Road saying they had seen a low-flying aircraft and then heard what sounded like an explosion.

When authorities arrived, they found a burning plane in a heavily wooded area on Miles Jackson Road.

According to police, the aircraft was a privately owned 1975 twin-engine Rockwell Aero Commander 690A.

Police said the plane left Manassas Regional Airport Sunday morning and was headed to Georgetown County Airport in South Carolina. It was raining lightly at the time of the accident.

Both the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board were notified of the crash.
