Qualifications open June 25 for vacant Atlanta City Council Position 3 At-Large seat

The City Clerk’s Office said residents interested in running in the City of Atlanta’s special election next November to fill the unexpired term of the third City Council position must first qualify to run.

The qualifying period is Tuesday, June 25 through Thursday, June 27, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. in Committee Room 2, Second Floor, Atlanta City Hall, 55 Trinity Ave.

The special election will be held on Tuesday, November 5, concurrent with the general election, governed by state law. A second round, if necessary, will take place on Tuesday December 3.

There are two ways to qualify:

  1. File a notice of nomination and pay the established qualification fee of $2,170.80 to the Municipal Clerk/Superintendent of Elections.
  2. File a Qualifying Petition and Poverty Affidavit with the Municipal Clerk/Superintendent of Elections, confirming the applicant’s inability to pay the required qualifying fee.

The seat was previously held by Keisha Sean Waites, who resigned to run for Fulton County Clerk of Superior and Trial Courts.
