The Houston Astros have three players among the leaders in AL All-Star voting

The Astros’ win/loss record hasn’t been to their liking this season, but Houston’s players are doing very well when it comes to All-Star Game voting.

Jose Altuve leads the American League second baseman with 620,724 votes, followed by the Rangers’ Marcus Semien (539,223) in second place. Altuve, an eight-time All-Star, has been voted into the game five times (2015-18 and 2022).

At designated hitter, the Astros’ Yordan Alvarez (475,158) holds the lead ahead of the Yankees’ Giancarlo Stanton in second (408,610). Alvarez is a two-time All-Star reserve, in 2022 and 2023.

Among outfielders, Houston’s Kyle Tucker is third with 593,358 votes, behind two Yankees: Aaron Judge (1,366,315) and Juan Soto (1,252,020). Tucker was also a reserve in 2022 and 2023.

No other Houston player was in the top five at his position. Other Astros on the All-Star ballot are catcher Yainer Diaz (sixth), shortstop Jeremy Peña (sixth), third baseman Alex Bregman (seventh), first baseman Jon Singleton (seventh). ) and utility Mauricio Dubón (17th among outfielders).

The Astros have had at least three All-Stars in every game since the 2017 season. Houston’s 30 All-Star selections during that span are the most for any team in the AL.

The voting period for Phase 1 closes at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 27. On that date, the top two vote-getters at each position (and top six outfielders) in each league will be announced at 5 p.m. on MLB Network. These players will move on to the second phase of voting to determine the stars and starters of both leagues.

Fans can vote at MLB.com/vote, on each team’s website or through the MLB app or MLB Ballpark.

This year’s All-Star Game will take place July 16 at Globe Life Field in Arlington.
